Young minds, big impact: How Tietoevry Tech services empowers junior employees
Juniors bring fresh energy that help companies thrive. Meet three young professionals who joined us in 2024. Their experiences reflect the culture of collaboration, trust and career growth.
Meet Emmi, Samera and Katri as they share their experiences after working for one year at Tietoevry Tech Services.
Katri Kaarnamo, Solution Consultant
Some of Tietoevry Tech Services’ young professionals are embedded with teams serving specific customers. Such is the case for Katri Kaarnamo, who works on financial crime prevention for a large Finnish bank. Her role involves managing system releases, as well as coordinating changes with developers and financial crime experts.
“When I joined the company, I had anticipated being in a very junior position. But to my surprise, I soon found myself in this incredible role in which I can really challenge myself,” explains Katri. “Financial crime prevention is a fascinating business area, and this has been an incredible learning experience. Now I know much more about data management in this domain.”
Career moves can turn out better than expected, like in Katri Kaarnamo's case.
Katri previously worked as a project and service manager at a private equity firm. But after completing a master’s degree in information systems science, the transition to the tech industry with Tietoevry felt like a natural next step.
One of the aspects Katri values most at Tietoevry is the encouragement to communicate about one’s career goals. She has found that when roles are aligned with individual skills and interests, then the transition into new positions is smoother and less stressful.
“It’s important here to openly share your ambitions and career goals. When you do so, your wishes are really taken into account in the different projects you work on,” says Katri.
The development of your career path is a priority at Tietoevry. You’re treated as a unique individual and the team encourages you to think about where you want to develop. There are lots of possibilities ahead of you,” she says.
Emmi Lehto, Solution Consultant
Keeping track of the bids we send to customers in different industries is crucial. It’s a process, that includes recognizing the individual customer needs, drafting up the solution and coordinating the handover to implementation - all in coordination with different internal teams to keep everyone aligned on expectations.
This is a skillset that Emmi Lehto brings to Tietoevry Tech Services. She enjoys the opportunity to work with proposals, especially the ones including software development projects and AI-based solutions, helping to ensure that customer requirements are properly addressed and that all necessary checkpoints are met.
As we have customers across the private and public sectors in so many industries from manufacturing to retail, there is always something new and exciting to do. There’s a lot of variety in the role, working with different technologies from Microsoft, Google, Red Hat and many others,” says Emmi.
Emmi Lehto masterminds with coordinating bids in the sales team
Having worked at a large global IT company earlier – where she was involved in enterprise sales – Emmi is no stranger to the tech industry. She notes how the Tietoevry community is characterised by a youthful spirit that flows through the entire organization.
“It was easy to start here, and I immediately got hands-on with the work. Everyone is extremely friendly and there is always someone to spar with,” she says.
The Tietoevry Young Professionals network has helped Emmi to feel at home. Organizing activities like sauna evenings, kickboxing and group excursions, the network reflects Tietoevry’s commitment to its younger employees.
"If you’re considering applying, just do it – Tietoevry has something for everyone.”
Tietoevry is a large company, but with a close-knit feel and Nordic presence. There is a real focus on personal development and individual needs. There are many opportunities here, especially for young professionals,” explains Emmi.
Samera Pöyhölä, Security Advisor
Shortly after joining the company in April 2024, Samera Pöyhölä took up an interesting role as he began navigating the dynamic field of vulnerability management.
My career here started with quite a buzz. Right after orientation, I started contributing to the development of vulnerability management services and processes, working and learning together with a highly skilled and experienced team," he explains.
"Taking part in managing both production monitoring and preparing for cloud transitions is a huge responsibility. I'm really excited about the opportunity to be involved in architecture and pricing decisions.”Samera works with cybersecurity projects as a vulnerability manager
Having previously worked as a data management specialist and solutions architect, Samera was ready for the opportunity to learn more and work with vulnerability management. To others considering the field, he recommends some self-study to stay ahead of the game.
“My advice is to get some free training and certifications on topics such as for example Microsoft Azure Cloud. This will boost your confidence and help you ease into any junior role," he explains.
Samera says his learning curve has been extremely steep during the first year at Tietoevry Tech Services. The opportunity to grow his technical knowledge on the job is something he values most about the role. He also appreciates the collaborative spirit between colleagues.
“I’ve had a great experience with my team. Everyone gets along well and there’s no hierarchy. Starting at Tietoevry Tech Services with a group of other juniors has been very helpful, as it provided me with a strong network from day one,” he says.
