For investors in battery energy storage systems, Time-to-Market is crucial

The cooperation between NSC EnergyOpti Oy and Tietoevry improves the availability of electricity and enables the building of new-generation capacity using renewables.

22 October 2024

The first NSC Energy Opti BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) go-live on 15 October  is a fine example of fast track to the markets. The cooperation between NSC EnergyOpti Oy and Tietoevry improves the availability of electricity and enables building new-generation capacity using renewables.

NSC offers electricity storage and optimization services enabled by a productized digital solution developed by Tietoevry for the energy sector. These integrated services facilitate the use of electricity storage for demand response, balancing peak consumption, and providing reserve market capacity in the national grid. This capability is crucial today, given the increasing prevalence of variable renewable generation.

The first of the many upcoming BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) storage units has now gone live and NSC service to offer battery storage capacity to reserve markets has started. For the next phase of expanding services, Tietoevry’s platform offers fast access to new markets and the combination of several energy assets into a so-called virtual power plant.

A lot of renewable production is already in place, and new capacity is being implemented at a growing pace. This calls for hybrid “power plants”, and our solution is a state-of-the-art platform and service model to provide this”, says Jarkko Avikainen, CEO of NSC EnergyOpti. He also highlights that with these solutions, companies will be able to meet the basic requirements of the commercial electricity market. “In addition, the energy stored in batteries can be offered as a packaged solution for use in several electricity marketplaces.”

Jarkko Avikainen, CEO of NSC EnergyOpti

“The increasing integration of renewable energy production requires standardized and scalable solutions to enable offering the capacity the energy system needs fast and out-of-the-box. Together with NSC, we have further developed our solution for the needs of new types of service providers to combat the volatility of the electricity market”, says Niko Jauhiainen, Head of Asset & Data Solutions, Energy & Utilities, Tietoevry Industry.
