The Domestic Cloud Service Provider “falls under a country’s local jurisdiction, ensuring cloud services are compliant with local regulations and sovereignty requirements. In other words, the cloud service provider is intrinsically sovereign due its origin.” – Gartner®
On December 27, 2022, Gartner released an updated independent market research on sovereign cloud offerings in Europe with the title of “Product Manager Insight: Three Cloud Deployment Models to Address Your Customers’ Key Sovereignty Requirements” where they underline three different approaches that customers can leverage to meet or partially meet their sovereignty requirements: through Global Cloud Service Providers, Global Cloud Service Providers with Domestic Partners, or Domestic Cloud Service Providers.
In our understanding of their research, Gartner highlights 3 important aspects about cloud sovereignty:
1) justified concerns about foreign (outside Europe) access to critical data, in particular for governmental and highly regulated industries, which translates in growing desire for cloud sovereignty;
2) Cloud sovereignty to be defined across 3 dimensions, Data, Operational and Technology sovereignty; and
3) three typologies of cloud offerings capable of addressing sovereignty requirements at a different extent.
At Tietoevry we are excited to see that Tietoevry is recognized as one of the examples of Domestic Cloud Service Providers in Europe.
