(Fornebu, 11 May 2020) SiO is Norway’s oldest and largest student welfare organisation and has 67,000 affiliated students across 28 educational institutions. SiO is now strengthening its digital focus, and a key part of this work is a new strategy for using cloud technology. The organisation’s aim is to facilitate interaction between students, educational institutions and employees and also to contribute to a greater degree of innovation and modernisation at the organisation.
SiO will migrate from its current technology platform to modern cloud solutions based on Microsoft Azure using services from TietoEVRY’s own ‘Cloud Direct’ framework, which comprises server, client, security and application operations. Thanks to a new agreement that will run for three years, TietoEVRY will manage and operate the entirety of SiO’s technology environment. This will give SiO access to hi-tech expertise in cloud technology. TietoEVRY has significant experience of migrating customers from traditional and proprietary operating platforms to modern cloud-based solutions.
The agreement has a financial framework of NOK 36 million over three years and includes the option to extend for a further two years. Charlotte Ødegaard, Head of Procurement at SiO, explains that TietoEVRY was selected because the company offered the highest quality and the best solution. “Throughout the negotiations TietoEVRY displayed a good understanding of our needs and requirements, and on this basis presented a strong solution”, comments Charlotte Ødegaard.
The ability of suppliers to ensure a safe and smooth transition from the organisation’s current operating platform to a modern cloud platform based on Microsoft Azure was very important to SiO, explains Torkel Lappegård, Director for ICT and Business Development. “We now have a detailed plan that will make it possible to ensure a safe and smooth transition to modern cloud solutions. This will give us a new and scalable platform that offers greater flexibility, which will mean we can accelerate our digitalisation work and so further improve our offering for students”, comments Torkel Lappegård.
Founded in 1939 at the University of Oslo, SiO is the oldest and largest student welfare organisation in Norway. SiO is the welfare organisation for a range of educational institutions in the central areas of the Oslo region. As well as 600 employees, SiO has nearly 8,600 student housing units, 16,700 GP patients, 6 gyms, 11 nurseries and 40 student coffee shops and canteens.
“We are very pleased that SiO has selected TietoEVRY as its digitalisation partner. SiO is a dynamic organisation rich in tradition that contributes to Norwegian society with a high level of expertise. Together with Microsoft and our cloud-based delivery concept, Cloud Direct, we will ensure that SiO has a modern and future-oriented platform”, comments Christian Pedersen, the Managing Partner for TietoEVRY Norway.
