Mixed reality training introduced at Greiner
Tieto accompanied the Upper Austrian industrial company Greiner during the introduction of a new application with Microsoft HoloLens, which projects 3D holograms for apprentices

The challenge
Greiner, a leading industrial company in the plastic and foam sector, had the opportunity to apply the latest technologies in the new Greiner Next Generation Apprenticeship Training Centre. Apprentices are trained on complex machines and equipment in the company and in the past often reached the limits of their imagination when learning how to operate them. This problem could be solved with a mixed reality application.
The solution
Tieto Austria supported Greiner in the design of a new mixed reality application for the Microsoft HoloLens in the course of establishing a new apprenticeship training centre. This allows apprentices to take virtual machine tours.

How we did it
The Microsoft HoloLens is an upside-down display unit similar to a pair of glasses and displays interactive 3D holograms in the immediate environment of its wearer. In the case of the machines in a Greiner factory that belongs to the apprenticeship training centre, these are, for example, points defined in advance which the glasses read out and project appropriate content for. This includes texts, videos, 3D models, animations or other information that provide trainees with informative added value. The mode for the projection of a completely virtual machine as a 3D model also provides assistance for trainees in learning how to handle machines and helps to reduce error rates.
The new Microsoft HoloLens has been well received by our apprentices and makes it much easier to make complex content more accessible.
